Final Fun Friday Challenges

Happy Friday, everyone!

One of the things I enjoyed during the last 5 weeks was getting a glimpse into your lives and families. I hope these Fridays have been a nice change of pace and that you had a go at the different challenges.

I want to use this post to highlight more awesome work students have done and shared with me throughout the lockdown:
Homemade butter by Ashley

Gardening and landscaping by Mahika

Banana loaf by Jack

Anzac biscuits by Caleb

...and another batch of Anzac biscuits by Tanisha

Tanisha also made dahl - a future Master Chef NZ competitor!

And more videos - A++ creativity!

Thanks again Room 2 and thank you to all the family members who helped, cheered from off-screen and especially joined in during the making of all these Friday videos!

How does it work?

How scissors are useful by Zoey
How do scissors work? A scissor is designed to split paper and the blades on the scissor help by cutting straight so the paper doesn't rip straight off.
Scissors are usually used for cutting something out and for art. Adults and kids both use this for similar reasons. Scissors are designed from different parts, most of the scissors are made out of steel, specifically carbon steel, while others are made out of stainless steel. Usually scissors are coated with nickel or chromium to prevent rusting.
Scissors work by two blades that are sharp like a sharpened knife. The blades are set up so when you squeeze the handles the pointy blades meet each other and cross very slow Scissors are useful because if we didn't have scissors we wouldn't be able to cut and it would be a mess

Pencil sharpeners guide by Arhan
A pencil sharpener is a pretty obvious tool because it says it in its name, in case you don't know what it is it’s a small contraption used to sharpen a pencil.

When to use a pencil sharpener
A scenario to use a pencil sharpener is when your drawing and your pencil snaps because you accidentally pressed it too hard but... You have a pencil sharpener so you can sharpen your pencil. Other scenarios are when the tip of your pencil goes blunt or you need to make sure your pencil is extra sharp so it doesn’t crack in a test.

Different parts of a pencil sharpener and what there used for
There are different parts of a pencil sharpener the housing, mouth, blade and cylindric gears. The housing is the base of the sharpener it’s the part that holds all the pieces together so it doesn’t fall apart, the mouth is the hole in the sharpener which is used to insert the pencil so it’s ready to be sharpened. Next is the blade it is the part where the pencil is going to be sharpened this part is very important because without this part the pencil won’t be sharp and the final part of the pencil sharpener is the cylindric gears when the pencil is getting sharpened by the blade the cylindric gears make the pencil turn around in a cylindric shape so it doesn’t sharpen only once side making a pointy tip.

Who knew such a small contraption, the pencil sharpener, could be so complicated when you look into it with detail. Now that I have told you about pencil sharpeners I hope this guide has helped you learn more about pencil sharpeners and next time when someone asks you “I wonder how a pencil sharpener works” read this article and blow their socks off.

Term 2 Week 4: Wednesday and Thursday

WALT use linking words to show cause and effect

Your WALT for writing this week is to use linking words to show cause and effect in your explanations: Since, As, When, So, As a result, Consequently, Therefore

Here are some examples:

The cause - an event, action or reason
The effect - the result or outcome

Staplers are very important since many schools and offices use paper for learning and work.

When you squeeze the handles, the pointy blades meet each other and cross very slow.

The blades on the scissor help by cutting straight so the paper doesn't rip straight off.

He watched tutorial videos and practiced solving the Rubiks Cube everyday. Consequently, after a week he could expertly solve this tricky puzzle in less than 2 minutes.

This marvelous new toy from HDS Toy Company will improve any child's mood and coordination. Therefore, don't delay in buying it for your family.

As you spend more time on training, playing and caring for your digital pet, it will develop into a creature that is resilient and agile during battles.

Last week, I was busy helping my family and didn't complete any Must Do tasks. As a result, I missed out on earning the Star Student award.

She will feel much better when she goes on her regular stroll around the charming, tranquil park.

Star Students Term 2 Week 3

Star Student Trophies | Star students, Star trophy, Trophies

This week's Star Student is tied again between three students: Jack, Elliott and Anika

The reason I have chosen these students are:
  • Managing self: They have settled into a good routine with their learning. All three of you organise your own timetable to ensure you achieve your goals on time. You approach online learning with a great attitude and treat each task as an opportunity to show personal excellence.
  • Contributing and participating: You contribute to your learning by consistently checking work for feedback, commenting on your classmates' blogs and challenging yourselves through the Can Do tasks or Challenges.
  • Thinking: You engage in tasks with curiosity and creativity. It's fantastic to see how you show off your personality through the different tasks and challenges.

Last week, I noticed a big improvement in the class - you all worked hard to be engaged in your learning. I also heard students talk about some of the things they have learned while isolating at home for the last 6 weeks. It was interesting to hear them speak about things like being organised, helping others, time management, and looking after one's health (mental and physical). As we begin another week of learning online, I hope you don't forget all the new skills you are developing and to be proud of the ways you have improved.

Term 2 Week 3: Friday

Kia ora koutou Room 2,

Here are the Must Do tasks you need to finish today. All the links and instructions are on the original Google Slides here.

  1. Sorting facts and pictures about solids, liquids and gases in Amazing Matter.
  2. Writing about the Baking Soda & Vinegar experiment.
  3. Going onto e-ako and finishing the M3.2 Measuring lengths using metres and centimetres module.
  4. Using Adverbs to add detail and description to your writing.
  5. Reading 2 Assigned Books on Epic, and updating your Digital Reading Log. If your Assigned Books have quizzes at the end, make sure you try to answer the questions.
To finish a task, you need to take a picture of it and email it to me or share it with me if you did it on Google Drive. If your task is on Epic and e-ako, the website will automatically let me know if you finish a task, so you don't need to do anything :-)

You also have several Warm Up and Can Do tasks you can work on when you finish your five Must Do tasks. There are also the two Fun Friday challenges - Build a word and Design a tile for the City Rail Link.

You will earn Banqer dollars for finishing each Must Do and Can Do task. I am carefully checking everyone's work and keeping track of who has finished their tasks, so do your best!

Remember to ask for help if you get stuck - we will have our Google Meet sessions today. This is the perfect time to check if your classmates also found something tricky - be bold!

Have a good day,
Miss J
