Star Students Term 2, Week 2

Star Student Trophies | Star students, Star trophy, Trophies

It's great to see many Room 2 students continue to make a great effort in their schoolwork and persevering when they get stuck.

The Star Students this week are Anoushka, Zoey, and Tanisha. Congratulations! You will earn extra Banqer dollars.

These three students have stood out for the same reasons:

  1. Managing self: They worked on their learning consistently throughout the week. They picked their tasks and worked towards completing it, without becoming distracted or losing interest.
  2. Contributing & participating: They persevered through challenging tasks. Persevering means being proactive and looking for different solutions to a problem on their own first. It can also involve speaking up during our online meetings or asking your family, classmates and teachers for help.
  3. Relating to others: They used technology respectfully when communicating with everyone.

Since Term 2 started two weeks ago, many students around the country have had to get used to a new way of learning and doing their schoolwork. I know that it can be hard to find the motivation to do a task by yourself, especially with many games, websites and other distractions nearby.

Remember that managing self, contributing & participating, and relating to others are important skills that everyone can learn. I hope all of you will try to think of a way you can improve in these areas over the next few weeks.
Here is this week's Whanau Time challenge. Have fun!

Week 2 Round Up

What's Happened This Week?

Happy Friday, Room 2!

In this post, I will point out some reminders and shine the spotlight on the good work you have done this week.

Our second round of Google Meet chats is today. I have some surprises planned for those of you who can join!

If you have finished all your Must Do tasks in Reading, Writing, Maths and Inquiry from this week, you should work on your PE, Art and Music activities.

Then you can try the Balloon Challenge.

Take a look at the videos your classmates made for our Dance Challenge.

Make sure you find your Blog Buddies and go read their posts today! Write a comment and give them some feedback on their recent work. You need to be signed in to your school account to see this list (Room 2 only).

Tomorrow is Anzac Day - Try making an Anzac Poppy out of reusable shopping bags.

Wonderful Work

Here are some Anzac Day poems written by our class.

Test your understanding of coordinates with your classmates' Coded Messages.

Don't forget to check out the Passion Projects.

Finally, I will not be posting any learning tasks on Monday and Tuesday because of the long weekend and teacher only day. Please keep working on the tasks from the older slides I shared with you, and make sure to use Epic, StudyLadder, Prodigy and SumDog to practice your reading and maths. If you finish everything, you can work on your Passion Projects and Challenges.

I will hold more online meetings on Google Meet next Tuesday, so remember to check your emails for the link.

Take care, stay safe and have a great weekend!

A late entry for our Tik Tok dance challenge ;-)

Coordinate Code Breaker

As one of their maths tasks this week, students practiced reading and writing coordinates by writing Coded Messages.

Here is the Code Breaker you need to use. Each letter of the alphabet has its own unique coordinate. For example, the letter T is on E9

Can you use the Code Breaker to read these students' coded messages? Don't forget to post your own coded messages for other students to try!

ANZAC Acrostic Poem

Australian and New Zealand stand together and fought for their countries
Nervous and scared families at home, wondering what was happening
Zealous soldiers fighting to save their countries.
Armies protecting their country
Crawling on their hands and knees they crawled through the murky, muddy grass

Fun Friday: Let the dancing begin!!

Well done to everyone who took part in our first Fun Friday Challenge! It was awesome seeing your dance moves and creative costumes. The teachers hope you had lots of fun dancing and teaching your family! Take a look at our Tik Tok dancers and stay tuned :-D

The Balloon Challenge

Hi Room 2,

Here is your challenge for today, one that will seem deceptively easy! If you haven't got balloons, try using anything that's light and soft like stuffed toys, rolled up socks, scrunched up newspapers and more. Stay safe, have fun and tune in soon to see your classmates' dance videos!

I am so impressed by the creativity that everyone has been proudly showing off lately.

Term 2 Week 2: Wednesday and Thursday

Kia ora koutou, Room 2.

Here is your learning for Wednesday and Thursday.
I have changed the activities on some slides so anything on a purple background is new information. Please read the instructions carefully and remember to email me if you have any questions.

I have also shared some Art activities you can do this week. Enjoy!

Classical Music Description

One of your writing task this week is to write something inspired by one of the following audio tracks.

Take a look at some of your classmates' work. Can you identify which audio track their writing comes from? Can you identify any examples of descriptive language: adjectives, verbs, adverbs, similes, personification, etc?

The calm soothing beginning tells me that my team is on the right track. We are very strong and intelligent. As the music continues and the tempo goes faster I can tell that we are confused. I feel that we had made a wrong decision on the way and were thinking about what to do. We go on with the war anyway and end up losing badly. The entire team was stuck and were trying to get out. Once we get out it will be a guaranteed win because we discussed the plan. So how do we get out?
By Anika

The start of the music was loud and sounded like the army marching towards the tower. When the army lined up the King and Queen came through the gate towards the castle.

There were lots of trumpets, drums and violins and made it sound dramatic like something special was going to happen.

Then the music changed and sounded low, like there was someone trying to sneak into the castle. The secret agent for the bad guys followed the King and Queen. The king turned around and started to chase the secret agent the music sped up and when the King caught him he put him in the deep dark dungeon.

After the King caught the secret agent he felt dizzy and tired and fell in a daze, the music was slow and woke up in darkness.

Friends or Family

Friends or Family

By Brent

Both friends and family are important to me but if I have to choose one I will choose family because family is the most important thing in the world. My family, especially my mum and dad has been with me ever since I was born. They fed me, took care of me and protected me. Family is important to me because they love me even though I’m naughty.

They bought me a trampoline on my 10th birthday. My grandma bought me my favourite chocolate and she bought me two of it. I ate it straight away because I was hungry. My aunt bought me an  RC car. My family bought me lots of presents and spoilt me on my birthday. They made me feel happy and special.

Family is important because they will always be there for you. Family will support you, help you and encourage you when you are feeling down or scared.

Friends can also do this but sometimes friends just come and go. Unlike your family they will be with you forever. You can choose your friends but you can’t choose your family. You and your family share the same blood and that is something very special. It makes you connected forever. My friends are special to me but I love my family more than anything in the world.

As my conclusion. I have chosen family over friends because your family was always there for you since you were born and until today and until I grow up.

Treasure Hunt Maps

Here are some cool maps that Advika and Anoushka drew for maths. If you fancy yourself a treasure hunter, then try following these directions and see if you can make your way across the island on the right path.

Remember that you can do some activities on paper. Just ask someone to take a clear photo and send it to your teacher if you want us to see.

When Julian, Dick,  Anne, and George are together, Timmy considers himself to be ‘on guard’ and sleeps with one ear open for danger. Timothy's strong paws help him swim better than most dogs. His emerald eyes gleam at night and you can just make him out in the moonlight. His fluffy fur is well-kept thanks to George. Timothy is my favourite character in Famous Five and I love reading about him.
