Maths: Word Problems


These word problems were written by Mahika. Can you work out what the equation is for each problem and how to solve it? Can you solve one problem with more than one strategy?
  1. Caleb made 203 masks. The next day he made 375 more. How many masks did he make altogether?
  2. Joanna has 25 friends and she has 50 lollies to share evenly with her friends. How many lollies would each friend get?
  3. John has 2 packs of tennis balls. Each pack contains 20 balls. How many balls are there altogether?
  4. Elise has 153 pieces of artwork. Elise makes 231 more paintings. How many masterpieces does Elise have now?
  5. Louise has 7 containers of paint and in each container, there are 3 sets of colours in them. How many sets of colours are there altogether?
  6. Laura has 140.00 to spend on whatever she wants. She spends 73.00 how many dollars does she have left?
  7. Tom is having a birthday party and he has invited 13 guests. Tom has to make his goodie bags and he has 26 items to share with his friends. How many goodies would each guest get?   
  8. Isaac had 254 apples and he ate 138 of them. How many apples does Isaac have left?
